Training vs Coaching

Do I or we need training?  Do I or we need coaching? I personally think one or other is right at the right time.

Training tends to focus on specific subjects or courses.  Topics such as Project Management, Time Management, Presenting.  The course can be a day for a number of people to get a massive boost on a subject or over a series of weeks to maximise the learning and retention potential.

Coaching focuses more on a person.  Building confidence, promoting self-thought and how to overcome problems.  Creating and learning tools to help in everyday situations.  It is tailored and individual for maximum benefit.

However……..Sometimes there is a need, such as transitioning into a new role or developing skills to move to a more senior situation.

Recently several clients have asked for this type of help.  This has led me to develop a coaching plan coupled with individual training.

For instance, a client of mine now receives regular coaching sessions.  This helps them explore issues and ideas, deal with day-to-day issues as they arise.  But also receive specific tailored training in areas such as Project Management, Team Development, Negotiation and having Difficult Conversations - either with internal team members, external team and suppliers or indeed clients.

Could you or your team could benefit from such an approach?  Tailored totally to your needs. I am currently helping individuals get ready to transition into new roles.  And also work with teams but on an individual basis where core skills are being learned and built on.

A common question is - Can I or we afford it?  It’s an investment.  You will increase salary and profits.  Therefore consider the return on investment.  A 10% - 40% increase will more than justify the investment in yourself and your team.  Winning and retaining your customers is a huge benefit.

I am working with clients to be amazing at what they do.  If you would like to explore further.  Talk through the issues you have.  To see how I can help.  Please contact me on matthew@matthewlanetraining.com
